Still no excuses for me to clean Wesley’s poo and pee…lol

I never thought I would become a father. Let alone, write this blog entry. Well, Wesley Poh, my son  came to this beautiful world on 15th November 2009, one month before his expected arrival date. We were simply caught off guard for that, except that on thursday’s morning, 12th Nov 2009, we got a chance to rehearse…I can’t recall the exact time my dear wifey called out to me while I still feeding my sleepiness, but her words were clear…she have some bleeding when she went to the toilet.

Quickly, we took our bags and rushed to KKH hospital via the shortest route known to me. Strangely, she was not ready for delivery so the gynae who happened to be away(overseas leave) on that morning returned to check on her and decided that she’s not ready but gave us an appointment on the 14th Nov 2009 so that he can give my wifey a check again.

So, that ended our eventful thursday, with Linda on MC for 2 days. Rest easy, I say. On friday, 13th Nov 2009, fortunately, my mum in law came so that I was able to go to work..and that was my last day at work…..

On saturday, after seeing Dr Han…he said no, your wife is still not ready, come back to see me next week..and so we left, thinking that well we got one more week ..happily we went to shop and buy stuff, like Wes’ baby pram…then after dinner, my wifey started complaining of back ache, and it was not like what the doctor had said, it is just her lower back that hurts…so the two of us being 1st time parents, didn’t think that we’re in the 1st stage of labour already. The pain gotten so bad that when Linda was practically in tears…and couldn’t sleep…we just didn’t know…

Everything that day seems to be in a haze or something, I can’t even remember what time I woke up, did I take breakfast, etc? Anyway, around 9 plus in the morning, Linda said: ” Wesley doesn’t seems to be moving..shall we go to hospital?” And so we did….the same route like thursday…

We arrived around 1030hrs at the delivery suite…and then 1045hrs, Dr Han came and had a check on Linda and he said, I am going to be a father today…and Linda will definitely deliver today! My God! I am not that ready yet and Linda too, she have not even cleaned up her desk, clear with her HR on her maternity leave arrangement. But sometimes, life likes to catch people unaware, unprepared, etc. I suddenly thought of the scouts/guides motto, be prepared. I though how apt.

The next thing I remember was that they wheeled Linda into the delivery suite, suite no.21. She was asked to changed into hospital gown…and then when she lay down on the bed there, her contraction pains really hits her bad…she was screaming and in tears. It was a very special moment of my life, since I never knew what kind of pain my mum went thru to bring me to this world, now at least I have some ideas..Anyway, because of the rate she is dilating, Dr Han strictly say no epidural and Linda have to rely on the laughing gas to help control the pain. May I add the tremendous pain she was in! I never saw her in such pain, even pain coming from my twisted knee runs a distance second to that.

I think that this stage, I told her I gotta go get the cameras, her bag from the camera. Fortunately, I did..since she didn’t take too long to deliver Wesley after I returned. Although, in retrospect, running to the car and back to her wasn’t such a good idea. I know why time is what you make of it…since that ten minutes was like eternity!

I think when Doc Han burst the water bag at around 1150hrs, I felt scared for that moment, it was yellow and all…and then it became bloody..and then Wesley arrived, I think I am quite a multi-tasker at that moment, I am  Linda’s support, delivery coach, trying best to calm her down, and persuading her not to push, etc, taking pictures and videos of her and Wesley. Quite honestly, I didn’t know how I manage that! Still that cannot compare to what Wes’ mum have gone thru. For that I salute her!

Anyway, everything seems to happen so fast, so fast that I didn’t even get the chance to cut my umbilical cord of Wesley. I only remembered Doctor Han telling me that Wesley got the umbilical cord wound around his neck. Maybe that’s why he cut it without tell me or asking me to do the honours. Or perhaps, I was too busy with the camera, videocam and holding onto Linda?

So, next I think I saw Wesley covered in blood…Nurse Sam did the cleanup for him and did the twaddling and had him placed in the warming pen. And then came the weighting, Doc Han seriously underestimated, he’s only 2.264Kg instead of 2.9kg which he estimated. I guess the relative small size aid the delivery somewhat. But still seeing the little bundle of joy so frail and weak, I think my eyes went wet…..

… I think I will write separately on living life with a little bundle of joy…

But before that, yes, it is time again to change his nappy again.

Moved the narrow leaf java fern to the right and did some repositioning to the driftwood. Nothing too fanciful..just my normal planted tank. Due for a rescape next june…
