Speedz….F1 Photography@Singapore Grand Prix 2009
Posted by diligo on September 28, 2009
Didn’t managed to get tickets for race day…but these are some pictures that I have managed to captured on qualifying races on Saturday. Honestly, the lessons that I have learnt from the Cahier’s talk on F1 Photography has been rather helpful. Personally, my leanings are…

1. Always use manual focus, i.e. pin point the focal point 1st prior to even the car zooming past you. It will be very difficult to autofocus when behind the fence.
2. Get a long lens! My 70-200 F2.8 L coupled with a 1.4x extender is still short and cannot get close enough to the action.
3. To freeze motion of the car, try to go for 1/500 of 1/640 for shuttle speed
4. Getting a tact sharp image is more important than the noise, so dial the ISO Speed to 800 and reduce with noise cleanup software like noise ninja, etc.
5. Try to bring a tripod and go into the spot you want early. The crowd can be that rowdy and push you along quite a bit.
6. A monopod is a definitely a must.
7. Buy tickets way in advance.
Stayed for more then.

ISO?, Shuttle Speed?, Aperture?, Metering?, Lens?

ISO?, Shuttle Speed?, Aperture?, Metering?, Lens?, originally uploaded by iwynx.
Paul Henri Cahier sharing with the audience in Singapore the aspect of F1 Photography. The important thing
1. ISO Speed
2. Aperture
3. Shuttle Speed
4. Lens
Well, this guy is apparently quite famous for all his slow motion pics of F1 cars and such. Guess what for some picture that he shot last year over Singapore Inaugural F1 night race….ISO400, F22, 1/15, 600mm F4 L. Yes, you read it right.
Anyway, something that I found very memorable from his photography seminar…
Take a chance! Shoot that photo even if you’re behind the fence. If you get 1 shot out of 500, then you will be happy.

The yummy chicken rice from Kovan. Oops..Did I say this is my default lunch whenever I am too busy to eat…Not this one though, too far from where I work. Do give it a try on the succulent chicken that is just nice and tender.
