one week post ops

Posted by diligo on November 29, 2007

Yup, it been a week since the knee operation..learnt alot about my ailing left knee and what was done to recover my knee back to the original state… I guess there will not be an original state given that I must have torn my meniscus during my reuda class…I can’t exactly recall the command that was called out that day..All I could recall was that I stepped onto my spanish classmate’s ankle and got my knee twisted real bad..Anyhow, do read up more about the meniscus tear that I got –> http://www.arthroscopy.com/sp05005.htm This sounds frightening… Now, there is one big issue about ‘complete’ meniscectomy that you must understand – complete meniscectomy is a one-way ticket to arthritis! Been doing my regular stretching, leg lifts to strengthen the quadriceps, hamstrings…all in the name of getting me off crutches in another 12 days time…and in the good cause of getting my knee stronger so that I can let the new ACL graft fuse nicely into my tibia and femur via those bioresorbable screws..

Here’s one bioresorable

I am kinda worried that I will not longer be able to run like I did before…but the doc kinda assured me that I still have about 60 to 70% of my meniscus intact…and that my reconstructed ACL will be able to take the stress load better…

anyhow, one week on….I am in less pain than the 1st day..been off painkillers for 5 days now…so that’s a good sight…knee bending…ermh..still cannot bend it past 90…the physio orders..to 90 next week, okay? Guess I gotta be patient and keep doing my stretches, icing…

Okay, time for my afternoon physio…and icing session…all is well..if you have any DVD documentary..loan me..I need some entertainment in my state…lol

The ACL Reconstruction

Posted by diligo on November 27, 2007

Yup, folks…finally got it done. Now, I am in some kind of state where I can’t walk much due to the swelling and and newly reconstructed ACL..

Anyhow, I got a surprised package after the ops, a piece of my menicus(L)…well, definitely have torn it during that unfortunate reuda class one week before NDP 2006. No way, one could have tear his acl during dance..that’s what the doc offered.

The day of the ops, met evil gus mel , chief tormentor in PA days..some 9 yrs ago..some of my knee problem must have been due to his infamous back to zero squat kicks…oh well, what I can possibly say..

The last meal before the ops at east coast was really nice..cos my supportive wife presence and of course, the though of making that one change in my life that could really make me a better person, well, too long a procrastination for me..

At the hospital, 1500hrs..did the admission thingie…the doc on duty drew some of my blood for test, I was tagged and was told not to remove it till I discharged… was ushered into my ward, ward 75, bed 4, room 12…and was issued a surgery gown and a pair of disposable undies for the ops….well, my dear wifey was with me all the time.

2000hrs: the attendant came and I changed..the undies was too darn tight…reminiscing the last ops that I had…some 21 yrs ago…there was no disposable undies back then!

2030hrs: In operating theater, I was asked my name, my IC number and which knee is going to be operated on, and if the knee was marked, a total of 4 times and yes, I was asked if the consent form was signed by me…

2100hr: Knocked by the anesthetic…start the operation did…

2330hrs: Out to the ward again…very glad to see my wife…and she returned my ring…cos no ring/metal whilst in the operating theater.
