Blood Test (Full Blood Count)

Posted by diligo on April 25, 2005

Done my blood test today..This is what the hematologist ordered.

Component of FBC Approx Normal range (will vary with each laboratory) What it all means:
Haemoglobin

Red Cell Count

Male: 13-17 (g/dl)
Female: 12-16 (g/dl)

Male: 4-6 (x 1012 /l)
Female: 3-5 (x 1012 /l)

Haemoglobin, in the red blood cells, carries oxygen around the body.
High numbers of red cells or high levels of haemoglobin could indicate dehydration, polycythaemia, chronic hypoxia
Low numbers of red cells or low levels of haemoglobin could indicate anaemia – due to blood disease, most chronic illnesses, haemorrhage and bleeding problems.
Haematocrit
MCH
MCHC
MCV
0.36-0.5 (36-50%)
27 – 37 (pg)
30 – 35 (g/dl)
80 – 100 (fl)
Haematocrit measures the amount of blood volume taken up by red cells, and depends on their number and their size. The others measure the size of the red cells and, overall, they provide clues to the type of anaemia and posssible cause – for example, marrow disease or low iron / vitamin B12.
White Cell Count (Total) 4 – 11 (x 10 9 /l) The white cells are the guardians of the blood – fighting off invading infections.
High white cell counts come with acute infection, inflammation, trauma and cancer such as leukaemia www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/cancer/.
Low white cell counts may caused by problems with their production, with auto-immune disease, where the body fights its own cells by mistake, or after viral infections
Differential white count:
· Neutrophils
· Eosinophils
· Basophils
· Lymphocyte
· Monocytes

1.8 – 7.7 (x 10 9 /l)
0.1 – 0.4 (x 10 9 /l)
0.01 – 0.1 (x 10 9 /l)
1.0 – 4.8 (x 10 9 /l)
0.2 – 0.8 (x 10 9 /l)

Each type of white cell has a different job, so the differential count shows which cells are affected and gives further clues to the cause
High counts may be due to acute infection or trauma, inflammatory diseases or cancers, some medications, poisoning.
Low counts occur with certain infections and leukaemias, kidney failure, some medications, AIDS (lymphocytes)
Platelets 150 – 400 (x 10 9) Platelets are small cells in the blood which are part of the clotting system.
High numbers may make clots likely and can be caused by any inflammatory disorder, blood loss, haemolytic anaemia, some types of cancer.
Low numbers put you at risk of haemorrhage and may be due to anaemia, kidney disease, autoimmune diseases, massive haemorrhage, severe infections, cancers, and certain drugs or chemotherapy.

Types of Showing Love- Love Languages

Posted by diligo on April 24, 2005

A online test to show how we respond to love..So there are actually 5 types of love. That I din know till today!

Anyhow, this is how I ranked them in accordance to importance.

#1 Acts of Service–You prefer to show your love through favors and chores and doing things for others. You feel put-upon and unappreciated when your efforts are taken for granted.
#2 Quality Time–This can be expressed either through those intimate tete-a-tete discussions or via doing things together. It’s possible to get a low score in this category because you have a strong preference for one form of Quality Time over another.
#3 Touch–You want to give and/or recieve affection physically. This may or may not center around sex.
#4 Gifts–You are moved by presents and physical tokens of affection. It’s the fact that someone is thinking about you enough to give you something that moves you. The objects are of secondary importance to the relationship and sentiment with which they were intended.
#5 Words of Affirmation–You need to hear praise to know you are loved and you may also prefer to express your affection verbally. Negative comments cut right to the bone. You want to hear that you’re loved and how much and why

Psalms 121

Posted by diligo on April 22, 2005

The Prayers that Eunice Said for me during my hospitalization in March. It is a powerful verse though I am not a christian but I truly appreciate the gesture of a true friend. So I am posting it here in my blog to remind myself of the beautiful prayers she said that day!

“The LORD the Keeper of Israel.”

A Song of Ascents.
1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun will not smite you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
8 The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever. “
